i300

The Jamo i300, a stand-alone powered subwoofer/satellite speaker system that turns your iPod into the heart of a full-fledged home entertainment system, offering full-strength hi-fi quality performance.

Comprising a iPod control dock, a powerful active subwoofer plus two compact satellite loudspeakers this attractively-styled package comes with a long-range radio frequency remote control… so you can control the system, your iPod (and your tunes) from another room.

But this 2.1-channel system’s versatility extends far beyond filling your room with tunes stored on your iPod. The control dock (which charges your iPod too) is also fitted with an extra auxiliary input on its rear panel so that you can hook up your computer, portable DVD player or games console to the system. Still got another source that you want to hook up? No problem - there’s yet another input on the subwoofer itself.

Setting up the system is simplicity itself. A new Universal iPod ‘well’ means that we can guarantee that you’ll be able to use any dock-able iPod (non-dockable 1st/2nd generation iPods can be hooked up via the auxiliary input).

How can we guarantee hi-fi quality sound? Using solidly constructed 2-way satellites helps. The speakers supplied with this system are magnetically-shielded boxes - finished in high gloss white - that can be wall or table-top mounted. These little marvels feature a precision-engineered 76mm/3in co-axial driver that delivers truly pin-point sonic imaging.

What’s more, the subwoofer is just as capable with a high-efficiency 150 Watt Class D digital amplifier powering an 6.5in bass driver, all housed in a solid but very compact reflex-ported enclosure. It also has a build-in 2 x 75 Watt amplifier for the satellite speakers, delivering plenty of power to the A 102 speakers.

i300 Control Dock
A new Universal iPod "well" means that we can guarantee that you´ll be able to use any dock-able iPod (non-dockable 1st/2nd generation iPods can be hooked up via the auxiliary input). The control dock´s auxiliary input on its back panel also opens the possibility of connecting a computer, games console, portable CD player etc.

As you turn the volume knob , you will notice the volume light-bar indicator increases accordingly.
Class D digital amplifier
The power is delivered by a class D digital amplifier, chosen because it is much more efficient than conventional amplifiers - it simply produces more sound and less heat. And with lower power consumption the need for cooling is significantly reduced which again reduces the size of the heat sinks. Also the circuitry layout itself is more compact which besides space savings also grants shortest possible signals paths and thus optimum sound quality. A digital amplifier is not a cheap solution, but it is the right solution in order to decrease the size and enhance the performance.
i300 sattelite speakers

These satellites solid construction and design result in hi-quality sound and power never before experienced from an iPod speaker system. They are weighty, magnetically shielded boxes that pack a mighty punch, due in no small part to the 76mm (3in) co-axial driver thats fitted. Finished in high gloss white these beauties can be placed on a shelf, mantle, table, desk, wall (a wall bracket is supplied as standard) and so on.

i300 remote
The included radio frequency remote control keeps the power of your iPod in the palm of your hand, even when you´re not in the room. The remote sends signals through walls and around corners to control your i300 and iPod no matter where you go. The remote lets you pause, advance, go back, fast-forward, rewind or play any track.

“For a reasonable price, the Jamo i300 speaker system offer exceptional sound quality, mainly as a result of its substantial subwoofer and the excellent finish of its satellite speakers. Something to challenge the “hi-fi” iPod …
Verdict 5 of 5 stars”

“Sound results
Although we would have been surprised at anything else from Jamo, the sound reproduction quality from this system is very good indeed, and worthy of the name “hi-fi”. Sonic imaging is consistent, with a very smooth transition from the high-quality bass delivered by the subwoofer through to the output of the satellite speakers. These satellite speakers are characterized by their great vitality, richness of detail and finesse. We would warmly recommend this system for iPod users or the owners of any other high-quality MP3 player, or as an amplified speaker system for a computer.”

“Our opinion
This system from Jamo makes no pretence at great originality in terms of its overall design – quite the opposite, in fact. Its strengths lie in its quality of manufacture and superior sound reproduction, which exceeds that delivered by many speaker systems which are designed for use in a computer environment. The price is also a pleasant surprise.”

“Sonically, the i300 is a really substantial listen. Like the best iPod docks, it goes very loud before distortion sets in, but its key asset is solid, well-founded and truly substantial bass.”

“An unusual subwoofer/satellite take on the iPod-dock approach – but it works very well.”

“Verdict: Clever, and for some listeners, the perfect iPod dock solution.”

Group test with: Apple iPod Hi-Fi, Harmon/Kardon Soundsticks II, Jamo i300, Klipsch iFi, Monitor Audio i-deck.

“The i300's aesthetic is stunning: looking like it's been carved from fresh Alaskan ice, the three white cubes are smooth and minimal. The dock itself looks solid and remains minimal but offers a touch of jazz in the form of the blue neon lights.”

“The sound that the i300 produces really does have to be heard to be believed. It seems the sparkle of the design has translated into the audio output: deep, powerful basslines, sparkling crystallised trebles and solid mids. The i300 completely fills a room with music and the sound is so good it's often hard to believe that you're listening to compressed files. Switch to Apple Lossless and the sound is nearing perfection. The power of the i300 (2x75 watts) is very apparent and it'll deliver volumes to shake even the most robust of foundations with no distortion.”

“With the perfect synergy between form and function Jamo's i300 edges above some very strong competition and is our overall winner.”

“It's obvious that the Jamo is class from the feel of it; the weight is satisfying and the build quality thoroughly robust. All very well of course, but without great sound the Jamo i300 would just be three, very cool, shiny white cubes.
Fortunately the three shiny white cubes produce a sound which could quite possibly cure acne it's so clear. To elaborate you get deep, powerful basslines, sparkling trebles and solid mids. The i300 completely fills a room with music and the sound is so good it's often hard to believe that you're listening to compressed files. The sound is equally pleasing at low volumes and high volumes, and let me tell you the i300 can go VERY loud. We tested it with all kinds of music and everything sounded excellent, it really shows its quality when you play some challenging dance music or banging rock, bass swirls and thumps and each channel of the music remains defined.“

“When it comes to iPod speaker docks there's always the argument that you could just buy a cable and connect the iPod your existing Hi-fi. That is true but it's doubtful it'd sound as good as the Jamo i300.”

Verdict: 9 of 10

“The sound sparkles, and the amount of detail is obvious over the tweeter-less Apple iPod Hi-fi system. Stereo imaging is pinpoint-sharp, and easily the best of its competitors.
Bass is also strong, and so dance, funk and soul alike rock and rumble along.”

“The Jamo i300 is essentially a grown-up multimedia system, which isn't such a bad thing. Computer sound has suffered too long as the poor cousin to home theatre, and we suspect units such as the i300 will help redress this balance. This is an excellent piece of kit.”

“Verdict: A close contest, but this is the best system for music, and will also work as a PC or home theatre kit.”
